While watching the film, some of the things they were showing seemed completely normal to me. Then it kind of hit me that I was exposed to a lot of this stuff and I stated to ask my self what was I believing that may be semi-extremist? I decided to go through the New Testament and write down everything I came across that had to do with a characteristic of Christianity or the Kingdom of Heaven. I wanted to try and re-paint the picture in my head either hoping to strengthen what is already there or to maybe pull the weeds from the grain....
If you are reading this and you don't know anything about me, I was basically raised in the church. I would be there every Sunday. I went to a non-denominational Christian church and participated in worship teams and leadership teams ever since Jr. High. I am now a college graduate and helping start a new church. I fully believe that God has given us a brain to judge what is right and what is wrong and that we shouldn't just accept what is given to us. As I John 4:1 says, "Dear friends, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits to see whether they are from God, because many false prophets have gone out into the world."
So from here I am setting out on a quest. If you choose to follow up every once in a while I would love comments, if not I hope that this encourages you to "test the spirits" in your life. What is true and right and what is a lie? Remember that every good lie has some truth to it....
As Jesus was giving his sermon on the mount he said, "Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; he who seeks finds; and to him who knocks, the door will be opened" (Matthew 7:7-8). May we find the right door and walk through it.
